New flight services have been added to the schedule at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The new service will connect even more Australian tourists and holidaymakers with Bali, with more than 60 flights between the two destinations every day.
Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has just celebrated the launch of a new service from Indonesia AirAsia.
The route will operate between Darwin and Denpasar and launch on 22nd March 2025. The service is the third route offered by Indonesia AirAsia between Australia and Bali, with Perth and Cairns already operating on a regular basis.
The inbound Darwin to Bali service departs at 4.35 pm local time, and lands in Bali at 5.55 pm. The service will operate three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The outbound service, from Denpasar to Darwin will depart I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 11.40 am and land in Australia at 3.55 pm local time. The return service will also operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of the new flight service Indonesia AirAsia President Director Veranita Yosephine shared “We see an opportunity to increase the frequency of these flights from three times a week to daily flights or even more. Australian passengers’ enthusiasm for Bali is very high. Approaching Nyepi, we also noted an increase in the number of tourists coming to Bali.”
She added “Indonesia AirAsia is included in the Top 10 Low-Cost Carriers in the World according to Cirium On-Time Performance Review 2024. Throughout 2024, the airline has flown 2.8 million passengers through Ngurah Rai Airport.”
The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, was present to welcome the first passengers into Bali from the inaugural Indonesian AirAsia Darwin-Bali flight at the weekend. He told reporters “With this addition, we hope to make it easier for passengers because there are alternative airlines to Darwin.”
The route was previously served by Jetstar, but Indonesia AirAsia will keep the route open for the foreseeable future. Shahab told reporters “This gives a positive picture, where the market share of Australia and Darwin in particular is very promising. Congratulations to Indonesia AirAsia. Hopefully this route can be consistent and provide the best benefits.”
Bali Airport now serves over 60 flights to and from Australia every single day. Australian travelers remain the most frequent international arrivals in the province. Flights to Bali from Australia are also the fullest of any other regular flight service to the province, with the majority of routes operating at 85% capacity or above throughout the year.
Bali Airport now serves flights to nine cities across Australia; Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. Altogether, Bali Airport serves 38 international flight routes, operated by 42 airlines. In terms of domestic flights, the airport serves 23 routes offered by 12 airlines.
It is not only Indonesia AirAsia who are celebrating the launch of a new flight service from Bali Airport, but Indonesia’s very own Transnusa Airline too. The airline has just launched its Perth to Bali route, which will connect with the TransNusa service to Guangzhou in China.
In a press statement Perth Airport’s Chief Operations Officer Scott Woodward expressed his excitement at welcoming the new service to the Western Australian.
He shared “The introduction of TransNusa to Perth provides another fantastic option for West Aussies to visit our favourite holiday destination of Bali.”
Addin,g “TransNusa will operate the service on its Airbus A32,– which will provide more than 127,000 seatsino this popular market per year.”
“We look forward to working with the TransNusa team as they increase their capacity into Perth over the next six months and look for other opportunities within the Western Australian market.”

Bali’s government instituted a tourism tax last year on Valentine’s Day, and they have already contemplated raising it to $50 or up to $100 to match what Bhutan charges.
However, there is an issue with enforcing that incoming tourists have paid this, as it appears to be entirely voluntary. There are few tables on international arrivals once you have exited customs, but nobody is asking or checking receipts, and the government now wants to outsource this function to airlines.
