The team behind the new Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone in Bali’s Sanur has been speaking to the media about their vision for the future.
As Bali prepares to celebrate the opening of the new Bali International Hospital in a couple of months, all eyes are on Sanur as it embarks on a new chapter.

There are many different goals and intentions behind the development of the Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone in Sanur.
One of the biggest drivers behind the multi-million dollar development is to reduce the number of Indonesian medical tourists who go abroad for treatment.
The second is to encourage more international medical tourists to arrange treatment in Indonesia rather than look to neighboring destinations such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
As data shows, currently the number of Indonesian medical tourists heading abroad for treatment reaches 2 million people to 3 million people per year with a foreign exchange value of IDR 97 trillion.
One of the teams behind the project is InJourney, and top officials from the company held a press conference in Jakarta on Monday 17th March to share more details about how Sanur is about to shake up the medical tourism sector.
InJourney President Director Maya Watono, explained that Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone Sanur, known as KEK Sanur, will be the first integrated medical tourism complex in Indonesia that includes hospitals, specialist clinics, medical research centers, hotels, and convention centers.
She shared “We want to make KEK Sanur a top destination for medical tourists, as well as inviting patients from abroad for treatment in Indonesia.”
Watono revealed “The government has given practice permits for foreign doctors, but at the same time, we also want to ensure that there is a technology transfer and an increase in the capacity of local medical personnel.”
In order to ensure world class facilities and patient care, InJourney is collaborating with a series well-known medical institutions from Germany, Japan, and the United States to present a center of excellence in the region. InJourney is also working in collaboration with Bali’s Udayana University to ensure the transfer of knowledge from foreign doctors to domestic medical personnel.
The focal point of the Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone Sanur is the brand new Bali International Hospital which is set to open its doors in May 2025.
The hospital is already undergoing it’s testing period and the facility is on a mission to bring it’s ‘culture of care’ to the province.

While the facility will not be welcoming patients until May 2025, patients can already book screening packages for early bird rates.
The Bali Deluxe package, for example, costs DIR 7,000,000 and includes a full spectrum of advanced tests for metabolic disorders, infections and organ function. The whole screening process can be completed in under 3-hours and all test results and the full health report is delivered within 24-hours of the screening.

The hospital will specialize in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology, and Orthopedics, offer comprehensive medical check-up services, as well as providing comprehensive women’s & children’s health clinics, including maternity care and travel medicine and vaccination services. The hospital will offer 255 beds, 38 intensive care units, 8 operating rooms, and 4 catheterization labs
The Bali International Hospital’s vision is clear, the medical facility shares that it is will work “to revolutionize healthcare in Indonesia, setting new standards of medical excellence and patient care that serve our community, support national progress, and attract health seekers from around the world.”

While the Bali International Hospital is set to open its doors in May 2025, the formal opening of the InJourney Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone Sanur will be celebrated in June 2025 with more details to follow.
Tune in each week and discover how to make the most of your time in paradise.
