Bali has just announced that it will be developing a new port international port off Serangan Island in Denpasar. The port, to be known as Marina International, will be able to accommodate up to 140 luxury yachts.
Serangan Island is a little-known destination located between Benoa and Nusa Dua. Serangan Island has been a traditional fishing community for generations and is now embarking on a new journey as a tourism destination that will compete with the likes of neighboring Benoa, Sanur, and Nusa Dua.
Speaking to reporters the Head of Communications of PT Bali Turtle Island Development, Zakki Harim, who will be overseeing the development of Marina International, explained “The plan is to be able to accommodate 140 yachts. They will be parked there on the south side of the bay, in a smaller bay.”
Work to design and create the foundational preparations for Marina International has been in place since 2023, with 2025 the year that the world really steps up a notch. The project is set to be completed in 2028.
The development of Marina International is not only to create 140 berths for luxury yachts, but to also bring more tourism infrastructure into Serangan Island. Harim noted “later there will be hotels, restaurants and shops.”
Harim was clear that the yachts will come to Serangan Island from all around the world, but that priority use of the coast and waters surrounding Serangan Island will always remain with local communities. He explained “The project is coordinated with the management of the Marina International and Department of Transportation.”
He added “Once again, the priority according to the regulation is small fisherman who usually pass through [the bay] from Serangan Village for their daily livelihood.”
The development of the Marina International at Seranagn Island comes in addition to the development of the luxury yacht marina just a few miles away at Benoa Harbor.
The multi-million dollar redevelopment of Benoa Habor into the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is seeing the dockland now able to welcome multiple large cruise liners at a time, in addition to large luxury yachts.
The Silver Nova is a 244-meter cruise ship, which docked with a total of 1,185 passengers, alongside Queen Elizabeth which is 293 meters long and brought 2,927 passengers and crew to Bali, finally, there was the Viking Sky which is a comparatively modest 228 meters in length and carried 1,311 passengers and crew.
In 2025 at least 149 cruise liners will dock in Bali, with more expected to be added to the schedule towards the end of the year.
Yacht Sourcing have teamed up with Black Stone Yacht Club in Benoa to connect travellers with luxury on-land dining experiences, as well as creating partnerships with five-star hotels in the region and helicopter tour providers. As an archipelago there is a wealth of incredible travel opportunities within Indonesia.
As Bali is the flagship tourism destination and viewed by many as the gateway to the island state, many feel it is fitting that more investment is being made into improving infrastructure so that tourists may be better able to travel by both land and sea, in luxury and comfort from Bali outward to iconic destinations like Nusa Penida, the Gili Islands, Komodo National Park, the Banda Islands, Raja Ampat and beyond.
