As Bali is in the midst of the low season, aside from this week’s flurry of tourists for the Lebaran holiday, the island’s westernmost regency is almost crowd-free.
For tourists looking for an authentic Bali experience without the crowds and with great affordability, Buleleng Regency is the place to be.

To describe Buleleng Regency as Bali’s Wild West is accurate but, in actuality, a little reductive. Buleleng Regency spans the whole of the central north and northwest of Bali.
It borders the West Bali National Park, a pristine landscape home to some of Bali’s rarest wildlife species and most impressive natural vistas.
For tourists looking for an authentic Bali vacation, away from the busy and booming crowds of the hottest resorts in the south of the island, Buleleng has so much to offer.
From Lovina to Munduk, to Pemuteran to West Bali National Park, there is a lot to explore, and leaders in the regency want to see more tourists come and visit.
In fact, the Buleleng Tourism Board has been asked by the provincial government to create promotional campaigns to help encourage more tourists to visit the region. The Deputy Chairman of the Buleleng Regency Tourism Promotion Agency, Putu Gede Parma, told reporters that there are a few reasons why Buleleng feels a little quieter right now.
This is due, in part, to it being the low season for tourism in Bali, but also because the government has been putting its focus elsewhere over the last few months.
Whether you are seeking a luxury vacation, a jungle-inspired getaway, or a coastal retreat, Buleleng Regency ticks all the right boxes.
Over in West Bali National Park, luxury hospitality meets raw and wild nature at hotels like the Menjangan Dynasty Resort, which has just launched a collection of new African-style safari glamping tents.
Each tent is equipped with its own private hangout area and unrivaled views of West Bali National Park; a destination that is now being touted as the Maldives of Bali. The safari tents offer guests their own open-air deck, competed with hammocks, sun loungers and living room space. A private bedroom space can be found on the first floor, giving guests the feeling of sleeping in a treehouse.
A separated semi-outdoor bathroom can be found to the rear of the structure, and an additional living and dining space out the front. There are 13 beach camp glamping tents available, in addition to the rooms and suites within the Menjangan Dynasty Resort complex.

For a complete jungle immersion, Munduk is the place to go. Munduk, best known to be home to the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Bali, is the perfect alternative to Bali’s other famous jungle and rice paddies destinations, like Ubud and Sidemen.
In Munduk, earthy, ecostays can be found around every corner, each offering seclusion, intimate retreats, and walkable access to the most impressive waterfalls and jungle treks in Bali…some would say in all of Indonesia.

Air Terjun Munduk is not to be missed, neither is Melanting Waterfall or Red Coral Waterfall. Though technically not in Munduk Village, only a short drive away and still very much in Buleleng Regency are the magnificent Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, Gigit Waterfall, and Jembong Waterfall. If you want to go chasing waterfalls, this is the place to do it.
Top stays in Munduk include Elevate Bali, Gumi Ayu EcoStay, and Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort.

Heading to the very north of Bali, to enjoy a laid-back coastal vacation, Lovina is ready and waiting. Lovina is perhaps best known for its pod of resident dolphins, who can be observed best in the very early morning.
It’s a truly unforgettable experience. Top stays include New Sunari Lovina Beach Resort and Padmasari Resort Hotel.
Tune in each week and discover how to make the most of your time in paradise.
