Bali Travel Alert: Cyclone & Monsoon Impact - What You NEED to Know! ⚠️🚢

Storms near Australia and their impact on Bali

Normal Bali

Is your Bali vacation being rocked by wild weather? You're not alone.

A unique combination of weather patterns, including a record-breaking delayed monsoon in Australia and the effects of a nearby tropical cyclone, are causing havoc in paradise. Don't get caught off guard – here's what you need to know:

Australia's Monsoon Mess & Bali's Bad Luck:

Australia's monsoon season is seriously late this year. Darwin saw its latest start on record – February 7th! While some areas in Australia got drenched earlier, the overall delay is having a ripple effect, impacting weather systems across the region, including Bali.

Cyclone Seedling 96S: The Uninvited Guest:

Tropical Cyclone "Seedling 96S," currently located south of East Nusa Tenggara, is adding fuel to the fire. While it's not making a direct hit on Bali, its presence is stirring up trouble:

  • Downpours: Expect moderate to heavy rainfall across Bali.
  • Gale-Force Winds: Strong winds are whipping across the islands.
  • Monster Waves: Sea heights of 2.5 to 3.5 meters are making the seas rough, impacting popular beaches and coastal areas.

Bali's Current Reality:

Heavy rain, strong winds (up to 70 km/h!), and high waves (up to 3.5 meters!) are the current reality in Bali. This has led to:

  • Travel Chaos: Ferries and fast boats to Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, Lombok, and the Gili Islands are facing cancellations and delays. Don't get stranded!
  • Safety Concerns: The BMKG Bali (Bali's weather agency) is urging everyone to be extra cautious, especially near the coast. Swimming at popular beaches like Kuta, Nusa Dua, Melasti, and Uluwatu is strongly discouraged.
  • Damage & Heartbreak: The recent extreme weather has already caused damage across Bali, with fallen trees, power outages, and landslides. Tragically, there have been reports of injuries and even fatalities.

What's Next?

The unsettled weather looks set to continue for the short term although not as bad. Here's your action plan:

  • Stay in the Know: Follow BMKG Bali on Instagram for the latest weather updates and warnings.
  • Be Flexible: Expect potential changes to your travel plans, especially if you're relying on boat transport.
  • Safety First: Be extra careful with outdoor activities. Motorcycling in heavy rain and wind is risky. Avoid swimming in rough seas.

More Weather Worries:

Several other tropical lows and cyclones are being monitored in the region. One near Western Australia (potentially named Zelia) could bring heavy rain and strong winds to that area, but it's not expected to directly impact Bali. The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), a climate pattern, is also active and may be contributing to the unusual weather.

The Bottom Line:

The delayed monsoon in Australia, combined with Cyclone Seedling 96S and other weather systems, is creating a challenging situation in Bali. Stay informed, be prepared for disruptions, and above all, prioritize your safety. Don't let the weather ruin your trip – be prepared!
