New Maritime Tourism Hub To Anchor Bali’s Future As A Leading Destination For Ocean-Based Travel, Mega-Yachts, And Sustainable Coastal Tourism

Travel and Tour World

The launch of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub signals a transformative moment for the island’s travel industry, as it positions Benoa to become a major international hub for cruise tourism and luxury yachting. With upgraded infrastructure capable of accommodating large cruise ships, a state-of-the-art yacht marina, and supporting facilities like restaurants and accommodations, the project is designed to diversify Bali’s tourism offerings beyond traditional beach resorts. This strategic development not only aims to attract a higher volume of international visitors but also supports sustainable economic growth and elevates Bali’s status as a premier global destination.

Indonesia’s top tourism official visited Bali to participate in strategic meetings aimed at charting a new course for the island’s tourism development and long-term growth.

During her visit, the minister met with Bali’s Governor to explore strategic development plans and also toured the recently established Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, a key initiative aimed at boosting the region’s marine-based tourism sector.

The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is a landmark redevelopment initiative, involving a multi-million-dollar investment to completely rejuvenate the Benoa Harbour zone in southern Bali. Positioned within Denpasar City, this long-anticipated initiative is poised to significantly reshape the island’s tourism landscape.

Following the recent inauguration of the Sanur Special Economic Zone dedicated to health, wellness, and medical tourism, the forthcoming full operation of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is expected to further enhance Bali’s appeal. It will introduce new prospects for travel, leisure, and commercial engagement, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

During a recent site visit to the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, officials emphasized the strategic importance of the project in advancing Bali’s position as a premier maritime tourism destination.

The enhanced facilities at Benoa Harbour have expanded its capacity, now allowing it to accommodate cruise vessels measuring up to 1,100 square meters. The newly constructed docking pier is capable of accommodating three large cruise vessels simultaneously, allowing for a total capacity of up to 9,000 passengers. These enhancements are expected to play a critical role in positioning Bali as a leading global hub for cruise tourism in the years ahead.

In addition to cruise facilities, the development also includes a state-of-the-art yacht marina spanning 57,400 square meters, with the ability to berth up to 275 luxury yachts. Plans are underway to build a wide range of supporting amenities, including clubhouses, fine dining establishments, and accommodations, all designed to enhance the overall visitor experience within the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub.

A senior executive from the state-owned enterprise overseeing the project outlined how the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is set to play a key role in driving economic development across Bali and neighboring areas. The initiative is expected to stimulate regional growth by enhancing tourism infrastructure, boosting visitor numbers, and creating new business and employment opportunities tied to maritime and leisure industries.

Calls have been made for increased cross-sector cooperation to accelerate the full realization of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub’s potential. With demand for cruise tourism in Benoa rising rapidly, stakeholders emphasize the importance of unified efforts to support this momentum.

Within the initial half of 2025, Benoa Port saw the arrival of 38 international cruise vessels, bringing a surge of over 50,000 global tourists to Bali. This follows a strong performance in 2024, when 59 cruise vessels and 103,000 passengers passed through the port. With current trends continuing, Benoa is on track to achieve yet another record-setting year in tourist arrivals by the close of 2025.

Efforts to enhance Benoa and its surrounding areas extend beyond national and provincial agencies, with the Denpasar City Government actively participating in the region’s transformation. In late May 2025, local authorities introduced a new campaign aimed at promoting sustainable marine tourism and fostering greater community involvement.

The initiative highlights the growing interest in destinations such as Benoa and Serangan, fueled by recent tourism infrastructure upgrades. The campaign encourages travelers to explore these emerging areas while also motivating residents to participate in eco-friendly tourism practices that protect marine ecosystems and support long-term regional growth.

Tanjung Benoa, situated in the Benoa region of Bali, has earned a reputation as one of the island’s most family-oriented resort destinations. Renowned for its vibrant array of watersport adventures—including banana boat rides, parasailing, jet skiing, and snorkeling—the area offers something for visitors of all ages.

Just minutes away from Bali’s primary international airport, Tanjung Benoa offers a serene coastal escape, making it a favored spot for laid-back beach holidays. Its welcoming atmosphere and variety of activities make it a popular choice for multigenerational travel experiences in Indonesia.
