TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and not without reason. Besides its beautiful scenery, the local wisdom and customs are well preserved through the presence of tourism villages which also have their own appeal.

So, if you plan to visit the Island of the Gods and are interested in trying something new for your vacation, here are several tourism villages in Bali that you can consider for your vacation destination list.

1. Penglipuran Village

Penglipuran Village, located in Kubu Village, Bangli Regency, sits near the foothills of Mount Batur. This hamlet, known as Pengeling Pura, signifies a sacred place for ancestors and boasts breathtaking natural scenery. One of its distinctive features is the interconnected buildings aligned along a single pathway.

Visitors to this unique village can immerse themselves in its rich customs, traditions, and various ritual ceremonies. Penglipuran Village also upholds strict customary laws, including a prohibition on polygamy. Those who violate this rule face social exclusion and are relocated to a separate hamlet known as Kerang Memadu.

2. Tigawasa Village

Tigawasa Village is located in the Banjar District, Buleleng Regency, at an elevation of 500-700 meters above sea level. In this village, visitors can enjoy robusta coffee picked directly from the farmers' gardens, interact with the locals, and learn about the culture and customs prevailing in the area.

3. Sidatapa Village

The oldest hamlet in the Banjar District, Buleleng Regency, is Sidatapa Village, situated at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. Various ancient traditional houses like Bale Gajah Tumpang Salu have existed since 785 AD, with buildings facing the road, walls made of earth, and 12 wooden support pillars.

The inside of Bale Gajah Tumpang is called Tri Mandala, serving for daily activities and as a place of worship. Tourists can learn about the history, rituals, and customs by visiting Sidatapa Village. In addition, visitors can also witness the bamboo weaving handicrafts and ritual dances specific to Sidatapa Village.

4. Cempaga Village

Known for sacred dances such as the jangkang dance, baris dance, pendet dance, and rejang dance. Cempaga hamlet is located in the Banjar District, Buleleng Regency, which still maintains customs and has stunning natural beauty.

5. Tenganan Village

The Tenganan hamlet, located in the Manggis District, Karangasem Regency. Since the 11th century, Tenganan Village has still maintained traditional houses and has strong customary rules called awit-awit, which were then renewed in 1842. Therefore, despite becoming a tourist village, the traditional atmosphere and the Bali Aga (pre-Hindu) culture are still very much felt in this village.

6. Kapal Village

As cited from the book "Explore the Charm of Badung" by the Badung District Tourism Office, Kapal Village is located about 15 kilometers from the center of Denpasar, precisely in the Mengwi District, Badung Regency.

This village has the potential as a center for architectural handicraft products, a location for ancient temple sites, and is a village that firmly holds onto customs and traditions. Kapal Village is one of the centers for marketing pottery products in Bali. Furthermore, the village also has unique traditions such as the tipat-bantal war held in front of Pura Desa and Pura Puseh Desa Kapal.
