🍽 4. World-Class Restaurants, Shopping & Entertainment
What Sanur once lacked has now flourished:
✔ Major supermarkets & international grocery stores
Grand Lucky and others offer everything seniors need.
✔ Dozens of first-class restaurants
International cuisines at up to 70% less than major tourist destinations worldwide.
✔ The new Icon Mall (opened last year)
One of the most beautiful malls anywhere in Asia.
Yesterday I toured it again with my family—world-class design, cinemas, cafés, and shops.
Dinner for my family was 70% cheaper than in Western resort cities, followed by a Hollywood movie for Rp 60,000 (USD $4.50) per person in a top-class cinema.
✔ Easy, affordable home help
Full-time housekeeper:
👉 3 million IDR per month (~USD $190)
No more dishes. No more cleaning. Total peace of mind.
🚶 5. Sanur’s Walkability Has Been Completely Transformed
Sanur’s 6-kilometer beachfront—one of the most beautiful in the world—now features:
✔ A fully redesigned beach walkway
Safe, smooth, and accessible for seniors, including those who may be sight-impaired.
✔ A separate bicycle lane
No more mixing pedestrians and cyclists.
✔ Sweeping sunrise views
A magical experience every morning.
✔ All sidewalks rebuilt
Governor Koster quietly transformed Sanur:
-
Old sidewalks removed
-
New sidewalks twice as wide
-
Drainage and flood-prevention system upgraded
-
Completion expected soon
This is something even major Western cities have failed to do.
🏥 6. The Final Missing Piece: World-Class Healthcare (Now Solved)
For many years, Sanur had great, affordable general healthcare but lacked facilities for serious medical needs.
That has now changed.
✔ The new Bali International Hospital
Opened only months ago.
During my private inspection, I saw:
-
Two major foreign medical partners:
-
A top Australian medical group
-
Mount Elizabeth Hospital—one of Asia’s finest
-
-
International specialist doctors
-
Oncology, cardiology, neurology, major surgery
-
Advanced diagnostics (PET scans, CT, MRI)
A friend of mine recently stayed there for two nights—excellent care at a fraction of Singapore’s cost.
PET scans alone are one-third the price.
Sanur now has healthcare retirees can trust.
🌅 7. The Retirement Dream Has Arrived
Everything retirees need is now in place:
-
Affordable villas
-
Senior-friendly beach paths
-
Wide sidewalks
-
Electric shuttle buses
-
Top hospital
-
Low living costs
-
Excellent food
-
Beautiful climate
-
Kind, honest people
-
Strong expat and senior community
Sanur is no longer “up-and-coming.”
It is now the world’s most attractive seaside retirement destination—not just in Bali, not just in Indonesia, but anywhere.
